Word’s .docx gives the best results: it’s the format that reliably preserves your structure — headings, italics, footnotes, images, tables. You can also upload .doc, .odt, .rtf, an Apple Pages document, or plain text and Markdown; those are converted first, which can shift headings and spacing, so exporting .docx yourself is worth the moment it takes:

• Pages — File → Export To → Word.
• Google Docs — File → Download → Microsoft Word (.docx).
• Scrivener — Compile, with .docx as the output format.

Your chapters appear seconds after upload, and the finished EPUB and PDF usually take under a minute to generate. A long book with many images can take a few.

If you’re signed out, your manuscript and generated files are deleted automatically 1 day after your last edit. Books on your account are kept until you delete them. The privacy policy has the full picture.

Uploading, correcting chapters, choosing settings, generating and previewing the finished book are free for everyone. Downloads are free for books up to 50 pages — and every download is watermark-free. The watermark appears only on the on-screen preview of a book over the free page limit, until you upgrade. Pro unlocks downloads of any length and AI chapter detection — plans are on the pricing page.

You can preview the complete finished book — every page, watermarked — before paying anything, so charges already made aren’t refunded; cancelling stops future payments and you keep Pro through the period you paid for. If something went wrong on our side, write to us and we’ll put it right. Details in the refund policy.

Yes, as often as you like. Reopen the book, fix the text right in the app — View & edit on any chapter — or adjust any setting, then Generate again. Rebuilding is free. For bigger rewrites, edit your Word document and upload the fresh version. The manuscript formatting guide has the details.

Only if you ask it to. The one AI feature is chapter detection: when you click that button, the structure of your manuscript — and, for a document with no detectable structure, the text itself — is sent for analysis to suggest chapter breaks. If you never click it, none of your writing is ever sent to an AI provider. Either way, your manuscript is never used to train AI models. Note that chapter detection looks for English headings — doc2epub is built for English-language manuscripts.

Only you. Books are private to your account — or, if you never sign in, to the browser that uploaded them. We only look at a manuscript to diagnose a conversion problem you’ve reported, and it’s never used to train AI models. The privacy policy has the full picture.

The typesetting handles many Latin-script languages, but chapter detection expects English headings (“Chapter One”, “Prologue”) — for another language, expect to mark your chapters by hand and check the preview carefully. Right-to-left and non-Latin scripts rely on fallback fonts, so doc2epub is built for English-language manuscripts first.

The EPUB is built to the EPUB 3 standard and verified with epubcheck — the validator retailers themselves run — so it’s suitable for Amazon KDP, Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play Books, and aggregators like Draft2Digital. Each store’s requirements are its own, so review the file in its previewer before you publish. Wondering about Kindle: KDP has accepted EPUB directly since 2021 — no .mobi conversion needed.

The PDF is a print interior sized to the trim you choose, with mirrored margins and a gutter widened for your page count following Amazon KDP’s published requirements, plus running heads and page numbers set like a traditionally typeset book. Upload it to KDP or another printer as your interior file.

The PDF is the interior of your print book — the cover is a separate file you supply to your printer, sized to their spine-width calculator. You can upload a cover image here, though, and it will be embedded in your EPUB.

Yes — every bundled typeface is open-licensed under the SIL Open Font License, free to embed in commercial books.

No and yes. doc2epub only makes the files — publishing on KDP or anywhere else is yours to do. And you keep every right to your manuscript and the generated files: no ownership claims, no share of your sales. The terms spell it out.

No — you can upload, format and generate a book without one. An account keeps your books stored until you delete them and lets you reach them from another browser, and it’s required for downloads past the free page limit.

Yes. Delete any individual book from Your books in the account menu, or delete your whole account — which removes every book, your login and your profile. Deletion is permanent and immediate; we keep no copy. Anything else, write to support@doc2epub.com.
