Poetry and verse

Two ways to mark poetry. Writing a poetry collection? Upload, then flip on Chapters are poetry at the top of the Chapters step — every chapter is set as verse. For individual poems inside a prose book, create a Word paragraph style named exactly Verse, Poem or Poetry and apply it to just the poem’s lines. Either way, verse keeps your line breaks and stanza gaps exactly as written, with no first-line indent, no justification, and no hyphenation. One deliberate exception: Word’s built-in Quote style is not treated as poetry — it usually carries block quotations, which are set differently.
